Why it matters
Image generators are being handed to everyone at the same moment they are getting good enough to fool people, and most tours stop at "look what you can make." The more useful skill, and the one almost nobody teaches, is running one responsibly: understanding that the model comes with a license and acceptable-use terms, that it ships with a safety filter for a reason, that anything realistic you produce should be labeled as AI-made so it can't quietly pass as a real photograph, and that the technology carries concrete harms (deepfakes, non-consensual imagery, biased output) you are now…
What you'll learn
- running an open image model locally
- Hugging Face diffusers basics
- reading a model license (OpenRAIL / acceptable use)
- AI safety checkers
- content provenance (C2PA / Content Credentials)
- AI image ethics: consent, deepfakes, bias
Steps in this lab
- The idea: an image model on your own machine, and why we're doing it carefully
- Set up: a clean environment and the diffusers library
- Read the license before you run the model, not after
- Generate your first image
- The safety checker: what it is, and why you leave it on
- Label what you make: attach provenance with Content Credentials
- The ethics you're now responsible for: consent, deepfakes, and bias
- What you learned, and the standard worth keeping
