Lion Cipher Lab

Turn intelligence into action with the F3EAD cycle (Find, Fix, Finish, Exploit, Analyze, Disseminate)

Why it matters

Most teams are good at collecting threat intelligence and bad at USING it. Reports pile up, feeds scroll past, and the adversary keeps working — because knowing about a threat and doing something about it are two different muscles, and the second one rarely gets trained. F3EAD is the muscle for the second. It came out of military special operations, where intelligence had to drive action in hours not weeks, and it was adapted for cyber precisely because incident response has the same problem: you cannot afford a slow, linear 'collect, then analyze, then maybe act' pipeline when a C2 channel…

What you'll learn

Steps in this lab

  1. The problem F3EAD solves: intel that never becomes action
  2. The six phases in plain language
  3. Why F3EAD, not the traditional intelligence cycle? (the judgment)
  4. The scenario: a phishing email at Finch & Vale Logistics
  5. FIND — scope the target and write a target package
  6. FIX — confirm the target is really in your environment
  7. FINISH — take the defensive action
  8. EXPLOIT — harvest the intelligence (the phase everyone skips)
  9. ANALYZE — fuse the harvest with what you already knew
  10. DISSEMINATE — push finished intelligence to the people who act, and close the loop
  11. When NOT to use it, the trap to avoid, and doing it yourself
